The HTC “Dream” is one butt-ugly device
I mean, come on. What a great way to dig yourself into a hole by nicknaming your device “DREAM”. I’ve been following along on all the details as best as possible and am excited to see that Android will have a home in a few weeks.
But if there is ONE thing that HTC knows how to do (HTC, btw, stands for the cartoonish name High Tech Corporation), it is building devices that look and act like they were designed and manufactured by chumps. I owned an HTC device that ran Windows Mobile a few months ago. It was AWFUl. The slider is hard to operate. The keys are a bitch to operate. When you try to type with the slider out, you’re always afraid that the device is going to fall out of your hands. The fat slider, the four stupid buttons at the bottom, the standard T-Mobile co-branding at the top.
Sounds awful lot like business as usual, no? Where is the iPhone-like hardware disruption? Check out these stealth photos for yourself: http://www.engadget.com/photos/htcs-android-driven-dream-revealed-in-glorious-spy-photos/1008301/
Butt-ugly is an understatement…
I wonder if handheld computers will be better suited for the Apple approach of in-house development of both hardware and software versus the Wintel/Dell approach of cooperating but independent hardware and software companies. The latter approach won the PC game. The Wintel/Dell approach was extremely efficient at producing inexpensive ugly boxes that sat under our desk. Handheld computers are completely different. We carry them with us. Most human beings want attractive items on their body. This makes beauty a high priority. Apple can more easily deliver beauty. Wintel/Dell and now Google/ARM/Telco approach may not be able to deliver in this new arena. It’ll be interesting to see how this game plays out…
Agreed! I honestly am not going to be a believer in Android until I see a device that kicks ass. HTC devices need not apply.
I’m not going to hitch my wagon 100% to Apple and think that someone else could come in and build a great device. Just not the HTC Dream.
fuk u all. HTC DREAM is an awesome phone and can customize wayyy more then an iphone ever will hands down. And calm the ef down about, “Oh if feels like i’m going to drop the phone.” As if the iphone is not fat already and massive too. (way bigger then the dream). You should treat your phone with care. If you feel like youre going to drop it you must be holding it way wrong. I’ve never had that problem. You probably just don’t giving a living crap about your phones and treat them like a frickin used tire.
