Xobni is officially fantastic
May 2, 2008
I know, I know, I tend to get over-excited about these things. I don’t care. I’ve been following Xobni from a distance and was let into the private beta today (funnily enough, I just met their co-founder very briefly last night).
This product rules. I don’t know how or if they’ll ever make money or stand alone, but the fact that this functionality wasn’t built organically by one of the big email client vendors (cough MSFT) is a potent reminder of why startups exist. In either case, I don’t care about their monetary concerns.
Their product is the bomb - even the parlor tricks they pull (fastest response from me to someone else) are sick.

Can’t say I agree with you, buddy. I must be alone in the world but I found Xobni to be utterly useless. Yeah, okay, the graphs were nifty for about five minutes before I figured out they were pretty irrelevant. I don’t care how many emails have gone back and forth between me and a person.
Their search is useless. I use OL2007 with Windows Desktop Search and its blazing fast. I don’t know why I need another search bar.
The only thing that could remotely be useful is how it tells you all the attachments you’ve received from someone. I know some people who use OL as their file storage, but I save everything onto my computer as soon as I get it so I don’t need to worry about that.
In the end, it was a waste of resources and screen real estate for me. Frankly, I think the founders are dolts for passing up on the $20m offer from MS.

No way, Zain! Not all of us have OL2007 installed, first of all.
Yeah, i do get a lot of attachments in OL, so its worth it for me.
Maybe its just shiny and new, lets see if my enthusiasm lasts past a month

Okay, so, I just recommended Xobni to a coworker of mine. I’m officially hooked. Guess it just took me a little time to figure out how great it is
